4H Show – “Clean Up”

We finally made it to the first show of the season for us anyway. It was a small show, but we had a good turn out considering. Alayna and Annie did great. Well, Annie was a bit fussy, turns out she was coming into season. Convenient timing as Annie was cutting up Alayna was able to show her handling prowess to get her unruly bovine back under control and set-up in record time. Enough to win, and win big they did!!

We started our day at 4:30 AM. First item on the agenda… wash Annie!

Annie is in "the tub."

Alayna got a bit of the washing, too 🙂 . Her she is wiping a huge wad of soap suds off her brow.

Next… dry Annie. There would be no excess water or electricity at the show grounds so we would have to do all this now!

Alayna took Annie to the calving barn to dry her cow off with our electric forced-air dryer. At one point we “lost Jason” and couldn’t find him. Turns out, he was crouched down by the new calves, petting them and to us and our sleepy eyes he actually resembled a hay bale… with his real-tree Camo jacket and all. The lighting in the pic is better than what we saw when we were there, trust me, he was blended well. He didn’t even know. We were  looking all around for him, then he stood up and was like “I’m right here.” LOL

Where's Jason?

This is the newest born calf. I loved his markings (I think it’s a little bull calf, not 100%).

After this we loaded up and headed to the Show grounds. We were promised a stop at Dunkin Donuts but we got a late start and we passed right on to the actual show grounds. So when we got there, Jason and I made a quick run to town to get some highly necessary C-O-F-F-E-E oh and also breakfast!! On the way there, we saw some Moose crossing signs!! Too cool. Unfortunately we did not see any Moose this day! I have never seen one, alive, in person actually. I’m told by the locals that is actually quite rare to see them. Maybe one day…

Moose Country... we did not see any :(

So back at the Show grounds, everything was getting underway. Beef classes went first before Dairy.

In the end, Alayna and Annie cleaned up. They won almost every class they entered and they took “Overall Supreme Champion.” Congrats girlies! You deserve it!!
