First, the “dark”
On April 6th, we went to watch a movie, made by former homeschoolers. The movie makers are Christian and this was their first big screen premiere. They called on fellow homeschoolers to help fill the seats at the theater to help make their movie debut on the BIG screen. Our area met the requirements of our challenge and were rewarded with the opportunity to see it in the theater. My husband, Jason, got off work early so we could make it to the theater on time. We headed toward the theater and with some time to spare we stopped to have dinner. We don’t eat out often but when we think “eating out” in Texas we think “Barbeque” or “Mexican Food.” My husband has spent some time familiarizing himself with restaurants that might meet our standards in these genres BUT for today, none of our pre-approved restaurants would be available. We opted for a restaurant we had eaten at once before. I will not mention the name, but there are very few restaurants in the area so it wouldn’t be difficult to find. The last time we ate there we found them to be quite pricey for the quality of food so we opted to not go back there. Faced with a time crunch we folded and against my daughter’s wishes (she has particular taste) we went here. Upon walking in the foyer there was a big banner across the hostess desk advertising a “new beverage” called “Occulto.” My daughter and I both saw it and our jaws dropped and we looked at each other in disbelief! We were seated promptly so we quickly left the area of the banner. My husband went to wash his hands so he followed after. When he arrived at the table we asked him if he saw the banner in the foyer. He had not seen it at all as he had a different vantage point and agenda of finding the restroom. Then when he walked back by, he simply walked straight past it and did not see the poignant vinyl banner.
After discussing it, he walked back into the foyer and looked at the banner and came back to report his findings. We all felt that if he had seen it, we would have turned around and left immediately. I tried to find a picture of the banner, but I could not find it. I will describe it to the best of my ability. The banner colors were black and blue. A skull and other “occult” ceremonial items were displayed next to the bottles. There was a spooky mist rising like smoke across the entire banner, it was very disgusting and disturbing.I decided to try and find some images and so here they are… very interesting especially given the movie we were about to see…
It was shocking and not “hidden” as the name “occult” implies. Back at the table we discussed it. No one else in the restaurant seem perturbed about it, but we were discomforted about that fact and the fact that this sort of thing was being sold and displayed at the restaurant at all.
We were comforted by the Scripture that says:
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. 1John 4:4 KJV
and also this verse:
No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD. Isaiah 54:17 KJV
So we carried on as normal. We prayed over our food when it came and sat and ate in peace. We did decide that we would more than likely NOT be returning to this restaurant again.
Beyond the Mask – (The Light)
Off we went to watch our movie. On the way, we got a little lost, but we eventually got there. There were quite a few people that came and from what we could tell, although they came from miles around, we were all Christian and many of us were homeschoolers. A large group of people knew each other so we assumed they came from the same church and/or homeschool group. I will not spoil the movie for you but will tell you that we really thoroughly enjoyed it. It was full of action, adventure and for the girls… romance. I think anyone could enjoy it, based in Colonial American History it certainly was great entertainment and I would recommend that you seek out to see it! #beyondthemask

Given the beginning of our evening with the “dark” incident at the restaurant and then the opposite “light” theater visit we can see that Ephesians 6:12 is always in effect and that we must stay vigilant at all times.
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12
